Regular Linear angler Angie Lawley has once again been showing her better half how it’s done with this recent capture of a 25lb 8oz mirror from the Guys Syndicate. The fishing has been pretty tough the last couple of weeks with high day temperatures and the fish spawning, so any capture is a result.

Angie tricked the carp using SBS Corn Poppers with a cobweb bag of Bankside 3mm Sucka Pellets. Angie commented 'I really like these new Bankside Sucka Pellets. They have a powerful aroma and are really black in colour, ideal when I’m fishing with SBS Corn Poppers as the yellow hookbait really stands out over the pellets'.

Tutorial Result
Written by Ian Poole

Harry Pound from Gloucester enjoyed a hectic 24 hours recently at Brasenose 1 lake at Linear Fisheries with Jon on one of his tutorial sessions. With perfect fishing conditions and plentiful of activity from the carp, Harry and Jon decided to fish solid PVA bags and caught fish at all ranges, with the steady action through the day and at first light produced 19 takes with 15 landed. Harry learnt how successful solid PVA bag fishing can be and will undoubtedly be using his new skills on his local venues.

A mix of Mini Grubber pellets, 3mm Sucka pellets, D-Liver boilies and a generous glug of Hemp Oil certainly enticed the fish into a feeding frenzy. Harry was amazed of the oil slick the Hemp Oil was giving off and the large slicks created a hive of activity around the baited areas.

As the day progressed the fish sizes got better and it was only a matter of time before one of the rods produced a better fish. Late afternoon and a slow steady take rattled off, and as Harry lifted into the fish it was pretty obvious that he was attached to something a bit better. After a few powerful runs and an attempt to weed Harry up the fish decided to eventually make the unwelcoming sight of the landing net mesh. Harry's eyes lit up as i said i thought it was a 20 pounder and as the scales tipped round to 20lb 6oz Harry was well chuffed.

Harry commented, 'Thank you  for a awesome 24 hours carp fishing at Brasenose1. I caught a new PB 20lb 6oz, an absolute chunk'

Jon Commented, 'It's great to see a young angler learning new tricks and appreciate that it's not all about catching thirty pounders. Hopefully Harry now has a bit more confidence in his fishing and can also pass on some techniques onto his mates as well. Well done on your new PB. 'HOW TO' TIE A ZIG RIG ON THE SITE NOW

It's the time of year when zigs are at their most effective and if you've ever wondered what they are all about then check out our new 'How to' feature where we detail exactly how to tie one up.

'How To' Tie A Zig Rig
Written by jon

The zig rig has been around for many years now and allows a buoyant bait to be fished from the lake bed at the depth of your choice. Although effective at any time of the year, zig rigging really comes into its own through the spring when the carp are spending much of their time in the upper layers. A good starting point on any water is to begin at two thirds of the depth in front of you and then take it from there. If you have no luck to start with then don't be afraid to experiment. The depth the carp are sitting at will vary on conditions and the time of day. Also remember that the carp won't suddenly all swim to the bottom just because it gets dark. Carp will pick up a zig rigged bait at any time of the day or night - if you have the nerve to give it a go!

STEP 1

Here are the basic items needed to construct a zig rig: Size 10 ESP Big T Hooks, 10lb Pro Clear line, 0.5mm Korda Silicon Tubing, and for bait some Bankside Pineapple Pop Ups.

STEP 2

Thread on a short piece of silicon tubing and then tie a normal loop into your hooklink.

STEP 3

Carefullly pass the hookpoint through the tubing and thread around the hook to the position shown.

STEP 4

Put a bait on before you finish the rig off to ensure you get the length of the hair just right. We also like to add a thin piece of Gardner Zig Rig Foam to the top of the boilie.

STEP 5

A simple knotless knot finishes the rig off.

STEP 6

To create an agressive 'bent hook' effect, push another short length of silicon over the eye as showm.

STEP 7

We use two lead set ups depending on the situation. For weed free waters we prefer the inline set up, whilst in weedy venues a swivel lead fitted on a safety clip is a better option. When fishing zigs always go for the lightest lead you can as this will make playing a hooked carp a lot easier.

STEP 8

This inline set up works well for zig rigging in open water. A short two to three inch length of anti tangle tubing pushed into the tail rubber helps to reduce tangles.

STEP 9

For weedy waters a safety clip set up fished without a tail rubber ensures the lead will drop off quickly if it gets snagged. To secure the lead for casting the clip can be tied up with PVA string.

STEP 10

Along with the ever dependable Pineapple pop ups, another very successful bait for zig rigging is a small piece of foam, with yellow and black two well proven colours.
